Configuration Tool available for faster Installation of Analog to Digital Upgrades

Which speaker installation would you digitalize?

The laborious part in an installation is often the personal instalment at the location. That drives up cost. We have seen it in many installations and decided to investigate deeper into common practices. This is what we have found:

From hand written sheets to MAC address stickers (we use these as well) and complex management systems (some rather neat) are a lot of different approaches in place. No standard.

Now instead of building our own system, we decided to make it as simple as possible (was not too simple to build though) in an excel sheet fashion.

This is how it looks:

The new tool set enables installers to configure any number of IP Former devices — from two to hundreds of units — at once from a single dashboard. A grid view displays all IP Former devices on the network, their settings and the active stream on each unit for easy visualization and validation of the deployment.

Installers can assign devices to grouped zones and specify multiple, prioritized source streams for each unit — for example, an incoming Secure SIP call can override background music playback — as well as the relative volume of each stream. Settings can be copied from one IP Former device to multiple others simultaneously to speed up multi-unit configuration. The interface shows with green color, which stream is actively playing at the moment. An interface button next to each device in the list triggers audible playback of a test sound on the corresponding unit — a simple yet valuable feature when configuring many speakers at the same time and need to verify which one is which.

Advantages

  • No extra tool needed, no installation, no cloud
  • Easy to understand and all in one place
  • Fast deployment of configuration to zones or individual players
  • Accessible from anywhere inside the network
  • Each device can configure all others in the network
  • Works for 2 and for 2000 devices

We are announcing this feature as freely available from today (download update v2.6). It allows to cost efficently upgrade analog installations to digital with the IP Former.
