Live IP Audio Streaming for the Pope at Family Day Event

Barix IP audio solution for live streaming at World Meeting of Families in Milan

No wired infrastructure. A million visitors who want to listen live to clear audio. How can it be done? With a Barix IP audio solution combined with wireless: Streaming the Pope has never been easier.

The Catholic Church organizes the World Meeting of Families every three years. In 2012, the event was held at Bresso Airport near Milan, Italy. Roughly a million visitors attended the five-day event, which included two main services conducted by Pope Benedict XVI himself.

Audio to the masses was distributed using about 300 loudspeakers, mounted on towers and spread throughout the area.

Using Barix IP audio encoders, the live audio feed was encoded and transmitted by four 5Ghz transmitter towers using Ubiquity gear.

24 speaker towers were equipped with Ubiquity Nanostations and Barix Exstreamer IP audio decoders, delivering pristine audio quality with low, consistent delay to the amplifiers and speakers.
