IP Intercom
Traditional intercom systems are very simple: select where you want the message to be heard and then speak into the microphone. Dedicated wiring takes the signal to the selected talking partner, which means that adding new intercom stations is not straightforward, requiring long cable runs and expensive installation work
IP based intercom systems remove the limitation of requiring dedicated wiring and therefore introduced a much greater degree of flexibility in the design and maintenance of Intercom systems. Adding a new intercom or IP door entry station can be as simple as attaching a station to the existing network infrastructure. If a location is difficult to run cable to, a wireless link can be used.
Intercoms are typically implemented in one of two modes:
Peer to Peer: where any intercom station can call any other in the installation, used for example in ships and industrial facilities.
Master - Slave: all intercom sub-stations connect directly in to a central point such as a Security Office, this is the normal set up for Offices and compounds, where all entrances have an intercom door station and visitors must request access.
Barix Annuncicom IP Intercom devices can support both peer to peer (using Annuncicom standard firmware) and Master-Client (iPaging firmware) intercom configurations.
An intercom Master station can either be an Annuncicom PS16 with the iPaging application loaded, or a PC running Barix' free ICGraph application.
The Annuncicom 100/200 devices interface to standard door panels, their relay output is perfect for enabling remote operation of a door strike, allowing the unit to be used for remote access control. The Annuncicom PS16 has a built-in microphone and loudspeaker and is ideal for desk mounting in a Security office or at a Reception desk.
Barix IP Intercom solutions can also be used in a SIP environment - click to find out how.
